Origin: a Latin derivative
meaning "Gift of the Earth."
In November 2013 Dawn and Glenn Cowan were introduced to doTERRA whilst holidaying on the Gold Coast. One morning on their holiday she opened up her Facebook to see that her beautiful friend and now business mentor, Jocelyn Oades had posted about a doTERRA event. Dawn had used essential oils in the past and asked to arrange a catch up with Jocelyn so they could chat more about essential oils. During their catch up they talked about doTERRA products and Dawn was able to try the Ice Blue and Peppermint. “Peppermint and Ice Blue stole the show that night, as when I smelled the Peppermint oil I just knew these essential oils were different to anything I had ever tried.”
Dawn’s husband Glenn, had suffered from pain in his hands and Jocelyn offered a drop of Ice Blue to rub into his hands. “He was blown away at the result after just one application and was completely sold on the doTERRA essential oils, right then and there.”
After doing her own research and learning more about doTERRA, it made sense and felt right for Dawn to sign up. “My decision to join doTERRA was made because of my passion for essential oils as well as my business relationship with Jocelyn and her business integrity.”
“When I started this journey I had no idea of how it would change my life. I was not in a great space back then and had gone to some very dark places emotionally. I want to share this with others because my Why, is my mission to bring hope to those who have lost it and to inspire others to believe that anything is possible.”
Over the years as Dawn created her doTERRA business she has had some big learnings in the path to reaching the rank of Silver. “The key to helping me achieve this rank and milestone was observing those before me who had lead the way, being teachable and having an open mind for continual learning and education. The biggest learning I have had, is how we can so profoundly impact our physical and emotional wellbeing by incorporating these oils into our daily routines. These oils activate something within us that needs to be seen or healed but in such a gentle way.”
Dawn recommends to others who are interested in starting their own doTERRA business, to treat it like a business you have invested thousands of dollars in.
Find your WHY or a reason for doing it, over time your reasons may change but it really helps when things get tough.
She advises to be prepared to move outside your comfort zone and work on areas of weakness. Develop a mindset for success, being open to change, being flexible and prepared to do things even if you don't feel like it! And lastly just start.
“Don't wait to have all your ducks in a row to launch your business. doTERRA has amazing systems and mentors so it's all there, we just need to tap into it. Connect with your upline and enroler, discuss strategies and placements. You are not alone. doTERRA is about teamwork.
Get to events! The sooner you can be immersed in the doTERRA culture the better. Be teachable, read, develop and grow your knowledge. Lastly but I feel most importantly is understand the doTERRA difference and what you have your hands on. I have immense gratitude for the founders of doTERRA and the emotional and financial investment they made in this company. We really have the ability to change things on a global scale.”
Dawn stays motivated by regularly listening to her favourite inspirational coaches and speakers. Tiffany Peterson and Dr Demartini are amongst her favourites.
“Whenever I am looking for inspiration I will put something inspiring on and it's always relevant.
If I ever feel flat, I remember the look on people’s faces when you actually see the hope return to their eyes.”
Essential oils are a huge part of Dawn’s daily routine. The top products that she uses is Whisper and Ginger. “I completely adore Whisper as it makes me feel feminine and supported. I also love my Ginger essential oil (the oil of empowerment) in my tea or coffee and it is the one oil I tend to use every day. My all-time favourite drink on a hot summers day is Lime and Fennel in some mineral water, nothing can beat it for me.”
