Juno works with women and non-binary people in Melbourne’s northern suburbs who are experiencing homelessness and family violence. Their primary role is to support women in crisis and their children find secure accommodation and access resources. They also support them to find and move into long term housing and access other specialised support.
The Covid-19 pandemic made life more difficult for women living on low incomes. Sectors of the economy in which women predominate were heavily impacted, making women’s work even more precarious than before. Rising housing costs and increased rates of family violence have further exacerbated women’s vulnerability to homelessness. Intervening early, before women become homeless and present at a crisis service, is essential.
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation AUNZ has been supporting Juno via seed funding for the establishment of a Rapid Response Clinic, which is an early intervention initiative aimed at preventing low-income women from experiencing first-time homelessness.
The Rapid Response Clinic provides phone-based support as well as a drop-in clinic for in-person support and is a vital bridge and connection point for women who are experiencing housing stress and the early stages of a housing crisis.
We also recently partnered with Juno on our first self-care workshop as part of their EMPower program. The EMPower program aims to equip participants with the skills and confidence to thrive and achieve greater economic freedom. Facilitated by Wellness Education Manager Jess Wraight and supported by Wellness Advocate Judith Lane, participants experienced the benefits of self-care and learnt how to make their own blends to support wellbeing.
“Because if you don’t then who will? Personally, I need to take care of myself, so my kids learn to do the same one day.” – Juno participant
