Discover how to make your own elegant car diffuser using a simple macramé weave and an empty amber doTERRA bottle, as seen in the doTERRA Canada Living Magazine: Spring/Summer 2021. It’s fast and easy to make once you get the hang of it, so simply follow along with these steps and get ready to ride in style.
Align all four pieces of twine and fold them exactly in half.
Tie a knot about five centimeters from the fold to create a loop for hanging. This is your top knot.
Then, anchor the twine at the top knot using a clip board or clamp to keep the lengths steady as you begin tying the macramé design.
Separate the eight lengths of twine into four sets of twos beneath the top knot. In each of these sets of two, tie a knot about seven centimeters below the top knot.
Moving from left to right, take the second and third strings and tie them together in a knot about three centimeters from the previous row of knots. Do the same with the fourth and fifth strings, and the sixth and seventh strings. This should leave string one (the furthest left) and string eight (the furthest right) singular.
Finally, tie the first and eighth strings in a knot that is even with the others to close the macramé circle.
Each knot should have produced another set of two strings. Following the same pattern as in step four, split each set of two strings and tie an additional row of knots three centimeters below the last to form a diamond pattern in the macramé. Repeat this step three times if you would like a second row of diamonds in your pattern.
Rejoin all eight lengths of twine and tie a final, large knot at least four centimeters below the bottom row of small knots.
Trim excess string from the end of your final knot to make a decorative tassel, then place your upcycled amber bottle into the cradle of your finished macramé holder. It should sit on top of your bottom knot.
And you’re done! Simply slip your empty amber bottle into the center of your finished weave to sit atop the bottom knot, hang from your rearview mirror, and add a drop or two of your favourite essential oils to the bottle to enjoy a passive aroma while you drive. Alternatively, add a few drops to a cotton ball and place inside the empty bottle.
Want a pro-tip? Use thicker string like butcher’s twine and follow the same steps to make a weave that’s large enough to hold an empty doTERRA supplement bottle! The look is minimalist yet chic and is a great way to upcycle your used doTERRA containers into functional décor.
