A good beard has always been in style. The look, feel, and health of beards is a top concern for the men who wear them, as well as the partners who love them! For those looking to up their beard-care game, we have some great news. The secret to the healthy beard you want is just a bottle (or two) of CPTG® essential oils away.

WHY USE A BEARD OIL?

Moisturized skin and nourished, healthy-looking hairs are the keys to maintaining optimal beard appearance. Your body takes care of this naturally via the sebaceous glands—microscopic glands located at the root of every hair follicle. These glands secrete an oily and waxy substance called sebum that keeps skin and hair moisturized. However, while the hair follicle progressively becomes longer, the sebaceous glands can fall behind on the production of enough sebum to properly nourish the growing hairs. In short, the longer your beard becomes, the greater the risk for dry and uncomfortable skin and hair. Beard oil is a simple solution to supplement necessary moisturizing properties and provide comfort for a beard.

WHERE DO I START?

While many beard oils feature jojoba, avocado, or even olive oil as their base, the medium-chain triglycerides comprising Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO) are the ideal carrier for a beard oil. FCO blends well with other oils, is moisturizing, leaves hair and skin soft and smooth, and is odorless—so you can better enjoy the pleasant aroma of the added essential oils.

When choosing an essential oil to complement FCO in your beard oil, look for oils that have cleansing and hydrating properties, as well as ones that support healthy-looking hair and skin. Wood and tree essential oils are powerhouses of these properties. Below are some of our recommendations:

  • Buddha Wood, Balsam Fir, and Hinoki essential oils are other rich wood oils which can enrich and improve the look and feel of your beard and skin. Not only that, but they are some of the most unique smelling wood essential oils out there. You can find all three in the doTERRA Father’s Day Amāvī™ Touch Blend. These oils are joined by other rich essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil, making Amavi Touch perfect to use as a beard oil all on its own!
  • Cedarwood: Due to its concentration of cedrol as a constituent, Cedarwood essential oil can help to tone and clarify the skin. Cedarwood is also commonly used as a moisturizer, which can help promote overall appearance of healthy hair. It has a relaxing, woody aroma that will make your beard care not only effective, but aromatic and pleasant.
  • Tea Tree: Tea Tree essential oil is one of the best essential oils for daily use to keep hair and skin looking clean and healthy. Tea Tree cleanses and clarifies the surface of your skin and provides moisturizing properties to address dryness. This is an essential oil with a fresh aroma and an invigorating topical sensation, sure to awaken your senses and transform your beard care experience.
  • Patchouli: Patchouli essential oil is frequently used in cosmetics and soaps for its abundant benefits to the skin. It is also an ideal complement to FCO in a DIY beard oil because of its ability to soothe skin dryness. This is an essential oil favorite for promoting and supporting healthy looking skin and hair.
  • Sandalwood: Sandalwood essential oil is a common ingredient in a variety of skincare products not only for its rich, woody scent, but also for its ability to support a healthy-looking complexion when applied topically. Including Sandalwood in your skin and beard care routines can give skin a smooth and healthy-looking appearance, helping it feel nourished and rejuvenated.

Crafting your perfect beard care regimen is all about finding the scents and properties that are perfectly suited to you. Choose an essential oil or a combination of several that compliment your skin’s needs and offer the aromatic notes you most enjoy. After all, your beard is an expression of yourself! The products you use to keep it groomed should be as well.
