Bergamot Oil Uses and Benefits

Bergamot Oil Product Description

Originally cultivated in the coasts of southern Italy, Bergamot is a bitter citrus fruit that is best enjoyed as an essential oil. The aroma of Bergamot essential oil is mild and sweet, unlike the acidic rinds from which it’s extracted, and its slightly floral, citrusy, spiced notes contribute to a soothing environment when diffused. Used topically, Bergamot essential oil has surface cleansing properties and can easily remove sticky residue. Bergamot essential oil also makes an excellent addition to a massage thanks to its enhanced skin cleansing benefits and relaxing aroma. Bergamot oil gives desserts a lovely citrus flavor and makes a great companion to your favourite teas, especially herbal and Earl Grey. Bergamot oil is an essential oil of all trades that has powerful applications within your essential oil collection.

Fun Fact

Bergamot fruit gets its name from the northern Italian city of Bergamot. The fragrant rind of the bergamot fruit is also one of the main ingredients in Earl Grey tea.

What is Bergamot Oil?

The Bergamot fruit Citrus Bergamia is grown primarily in Italy because it thrives in the fresh-sea air and acidic soil. The small, bushy trees produce a wrinkly, pear-shaped green fruit with yellowish-green flesh. The bergamot fruit is a hybrid of a lemon or lime and bitter orange and is too acidic to eat by itself, which is why it’s best enjoyed and used when in essential oil form. The rind is where the aromatic magic happens. After being cold-pressed, the once bitter fruit is collected as a sweet essential oil.

What Essential Oils blend well with Bergamot?

Like most citrus oils, Bergamot essential oil has a versatile aromatic profile that complements a variety of different essential oils. Blend Bergamot oil with Lavender oil, Patchouli oil, Lime oil, or Arborvitae oil for different takes on an uplifting and calming aroma.
