Coriander gets its name from the Greek word koris, which means stink bug. This reference likely comes from the strong aroma given off by the cilantro plant leaves when the leaves become bruised or damaged.
Coriander comes from the Cilantro plant, Coriandrum sativum, which is a fast-growing, aromatic, annual plant with several uses. The green, feather-like leaves are steam distilled to extract Cilantro essential oil, and the small, yellow-brown, oval-shaped seeds are the source of Coriander oil. Once harvested, these seeds are steam distilled and bottled as the cherished Coriander essential oil.
Coriander oil is known for blending well with minty, fresh essential oils like Peppermint oil or Wintergreen oil. The green, herbaceous aroma of Coriander essential oil also pairs well with the popular Easy Air® oil blend.
