Sandalwood trees are known as highly aromatic woods that can retain their fragrance for several decades. Sandalwood oil is taken from the core of the heartwood, or the oldest, most central wood of the tree. The heartwood of the tree is typically a darker and harder wood, and is steam distilled to produce the richly aromatic Sandalwood essential oil.
The sweet, woody notes of Sandalwood oil make it a good pairing for floral essential oils like Lavender oil, Jasmine oil, and Geranium oil. Sandalwood essential oil also blends well with citrus oils like Bergamot oil or Grapefruit oil, due to its sweet, uplifting nature, or with warm, spicy oils like Frankincense oil.
