Three Holiday DIYs Using Empty doTERRA Bottles

The holiday season means family gatherings, festive celebrations, and, of course, decorations! Capture the season’s spirit in doTERRA style by repurposing your empty essential oil bottles into unique décor items you can craft with the whole family.

Festive Bottle Ornaments

Use your empty essential oil bottles to make cute, festive ornaments to add to your tree. You can also use full bottles and follow these steps to make the perfect gift wrapping that doubles as decoration before the big day!

Supplies: Several clean amber bottles, tissue paper, ribbon, twine, hot glue

Instructions:
  1. Cut a piece of twine big enough to make a loop to hang on the tree. Put both ends of the twine inside the empty bottle and screw the cap back on so it makes a loop and stays in place.
  2. Cut two sheets of two different colours/patterned tissue paper, 23 cm x 18 cm and 23 cm x 15
  3. Place a bottle in the center of the larger sheet and pull up the corners of the tissue paper around the bottle (as if you’re wrapping a present). Repeat for the smaller sheet.
  4. Wrap a ribbon around the paper and tie in a bow.
  5. Add any other desired decorations and hang them on your tree or share them with your friends and family.

Holiday Lights

Make your holiday lights a little brighter with upcycled amber essential oil bottles, perfect for mantle displays and garland decorations.

Supplies: Several clean 5 mL or 15 mL amber bottles, sharp kitchen knife, cutting board, holiday light strand

Instructions:
  1. Remove the bottle orifice and place face-down on cutting board. Insert the tip of the knife into the center hole of the orifice and slice down outward toward one edge (the result should be a “C” shape).
  2. Slip the orifice onto the wire above a single light bulb, passing it through the center of the orifice using the slice you cut.
  3. Insert the orifice with the light back inside the bottle and push until the orifice is securely in place. Repeat for the whole string of lights, leaving at least one bulb in between bottles.
*Safety Tip: Use the orifice remover to hold the orifice in place and keep your fingers clear of the knife’s edge.

Kid’s Craft Snowmen

Put together a fun winter craft day for the kids with these decorative snowmen made with upcycled oil bottles. They’re a perfect way to bring the whole family together and make warm holiday memories.

Supplies: A few empty essential oil bottles, black, white, and orange felt or paper, ribbon, mini pompoms, hot glue

Instructions:
  1. Cut out a rectangular piece of white felt or paper and glue it in place around the bottle.
  2. Using the black felt or paper, cut a circle about 4 cm in diameter for the hat rims.
  3. Remove the bottle cap. Trace the bottle cap in the middle of the hat rims and cut out the inner circle so you have a ring.
  4. Put the ring on the neck of the bottle and screw the cap back on.
  5. Use pompoms, ribbons, and orange felt paper to use for buttons or the face of the snowman.
  6. Tie ribbon around the neck of the bottle for a scarf or around the cap.
