Setting Goals


It's always good to set goals. Once you complete a goal, find a new one. Setting goals provides direction. Make sure your goals are measurable and attainable. We encourage you to set long-term and short-term goals that align with your WHY. This approach gives you the extra motivation and desire needed to achieve each and every goal you set. Short-term goals are great milestones and give you little victories along the way. Short-term goals also help you determine where your time and efforts should be spent on a daily and weekly basis. Strive for daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Small reminders of these goals will keep you motivated and inspired. But where do you start when it comes to setting goals? We have a SMART way of helping you get started.

Setting Smart Goals

 

  • Specific: A goal must be clear and well-defined. Vague goals lack direction. Make it as easy as possible to get where you want to go by defining where you want to end up.
  • Measurable: Include information such as dates, times, and quantities. Without a way to measure success, you miss out on the celebration that comes with knowing you have achieved something.
  • Actionable/Achievable: An action-oriented goal begins with a verb and directs you to take action. Can you complete your goals with current skills and resources? Are they beyond your control? Use verbs that indicate doing something rather than wanting something.
  • Realistic: If you set a goal and you have no hope of achieving it, you wear away self-confidence. By setting realistic yet challenging goals, you create personal fulfillment.
  • Time-Bound: Your goals should be time-sensitive. When you work toward a deadline, your sense of urgency increases and achievement can come more quickly.
