In any small business, there are key questions that entrepreneurs ask themselves in order to gauge where they are at as a company. doTERRA® is slightly different from your normal small business, but the same principles apply. We’ve put together a few key questions that we believe are important for setting up your business, and then to continue asking yourself as you move forward.
1. What is our purpose in doing doTERRA?
Most often when doTERRA leaders are talking about finding your purpose, this concept is referred to as “finding your why.” If you know for yourself why doing something is important to you, then it gives you better insight that will keep you going when you encounter problems. Remember why you started your business in the first place and evaluate if that’s still motivating you enough to accomplish your goals today.
2. Who is our target audience?
Part of the reason doTERRA continues to grow as a company is that it attracts people from all walks of life. That being said, if you’re looking for leaders and not just preferred members, you especially need to know who you want to work with, and build an approach to attract those people. It may help to find commonalities that you share with others. For example, many people interested in being involved with doTERRA are looking for natural wellness options to help their families.
3. Why do people need what we’re selling?
Similar to asking yourself what your purpose is, asking why people need essential oils can focus you in on the “need-to-know” information that you should be conveying in classes. You have your personal experiences that you can share, but help them know why they personally need to enroll with a wholesale account by showing them how they can improve their lives with the regular use of essential oils.
4. Do we have the right leaders?
Finding the right leaders is a long process for most builders. This isn’t a simple question to answer, but it can help you to see where you’re weak. Do you have leaders that balance you out? Are they passionate and committed to the business at the level that you want them to be? If you don’t think you’re quite there, keep looking. Also think about who you already have in your downline that has the potential to be a leader given the right encouragement.
5. How is your team holding up?
Your team is your doTERRA family. Checking in with them regularly to see how they’re doing can help your team members feel like they’re being taken care of. Once they feel secure, they can continue to grow through challenges with your support. This will also help you identify and solve potential problems within your team while they are still manageable, and discover where you can improve and grow to be even better than you are now.
