Leading your team

You’ve been sharing doTERRA with your friends and family for a while and now you’re interested in turning this into your business. Fast forward a year and you’re starting to build your team but you’ve never had experience being a leader. Where do you start? Here are a few things to consider when you set our on your journey to lead your own team.

1. Set goals – what do you and your team want to achieve? Setting goals is the first step to ensure you are all on the same page. The best way to do this is to come together and discuss what you want to accomplish in 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. This could include a specific number of enrolments or how many classes you and your downline will hold. Setting goals will help keep you and your team on track.
    
2. Keep an open communication – Once your team is established and you’ve set your goals, it’s important to keep the communication open. This can help you form relationships, assess any challenges and work together to overcome them. You can also get more engagement from your team when they see that you’re investing time in them.
    
3. Empower your team – Picture this. You’ve recently held your own class and enroled a new Wellness Advocate. A few months later, they are keen to run their first class but they don’t feel confident. This would be a great opportunity to inspire them, offer help and even attend their class so they feel supported. Always encourage and embrace new ideas. This can re-assure them that what they are doing is making a difference to the people around them. If your team feel like they can make an impact, they will become more motivated, engaged and interested in developing their business – and in turn yours!
    
4. Celebrate success – Be quick to recognise good performance. It’s easy to get caught up in your own business but it’s equally as important to take some time out to appreciate and celebrate what your team is doing. If they’ve met their goals or have overcome challenges, reward them. This could be as easy as praising them or handing out oils as gifts. This way your team will feel appreciated and it can help empower them to reach new successes.

Being a leader can often be challenging but also rewarding. These steps can help ensure you are the best leader for your team. After all, teamwork makes the dream work!
