Every day around the world women, men and children fall victim to exploitation at the hands of human traffickers. And the problem is bigger now than ever before in history. Twice the population of Australia - 45 million people – are currently enslaved globally.

Vietnam is one of Southeast Asia’s fastest developing countries, yet it remains a significant source country for sex trafficking and forced labour. 

It is estimated that over 421,000 people are currently living in modern slavery in Vietnam, with the Yen Bai province now known as a trafficking hotspot.

We know the best way to eliminate trafficking is to alleviate poverty. By increasing economic security, communities are less vulnerable and women are empowered to protect themselves and their families.

Late 2022, we commenced working for three years alongside the global organisation Hagar, focussing our efforts on prevention through our biggest and most exciting initiative to date in the Yen Bai province of Vietnam, where we also source Litsea oil.

Animal Bank Program

Designed to grow household income for trafficking survivors and women at risk of human trafficking, our ‘Animal Bank’ program provides women with a pair of income-producing animals such as cows, goats or pigs, and offers training in care and breeding to help improve their long-term economic livelihoods. Once these animals breed, their offspring go into a communal ‘animal bank’ helping to continue the cycle of hope in other vulnerable households.

Investing in the Animal Bank program in Vietnam is our collective contribution to the broader impact of the global doTERRA Healing Hands Hope anti-trafficking movement. 

As part of the global fight to end human trafficking, the doTERRA Hope initiative includes Co-Impact Sourcing initiatives that help bring financial stability to at-risk communities and outreach programs aimed at increasing local knowledge of violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking.
