Origin: a Latin derivative
meaning "Gift of the Earth."
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation seeks to bring healing and hope to the world, for lives free of disease and poverty, and to ultimately empower impoverished communities with the tools needed to become self-reliant.
Having experienced the life-enriching power of essential oils, a group of health-care and business professionals collaborated with a common goal of creating a new standard of essential oils that would influence individuals and communities around the world. In the spring of 2008, their vision became a reality and doTERRA, meaning “gift of the Earth,” was founded. Since the company’s beginning, high-quality essential oils sourced and distributed by doTERRA have spread throughout the globe, enhancing many lives.
In addition to sharing essential oils with the world, doTERRA aspired to serve people and communities with the resources they had. Initially, this meant donating to charities, fundraisers, and community projects, but it eventually grew to be much more. The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation was created in June 2012 as an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The foundation is one of the ways doTERRA reaches out and serves communities in need. They do this by partnering with organizations and doTERRA Wellness Advocates to offer hope to millions around the world. Through the foundation’s efforts, lives are freed of disease and poverty, and communities are empowered with the tools needed to become self-reliant.
As is common with many non-profits, maintaining a constant flow of money and resources can be difficult. In order to provide sufficient funds for the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, the founders of doTERRA conceived a plan to sustainably raise money for the new organization and maximize its effect on individuals and communities worldwide. Donations to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation can be made in any of the following ways.

Rose Oil Lotion Sales
doTERRA chose Rose Oil Lotion as a product donation because of its unique value. This lotion is infused with Rose essential oil, which is known as the “Queen of essential oils.” Rose essential oil is a labor-intensive oil that requires the extraction of 242,000 rose petals from 10,000 roses to produce only 5 mL of essential oil.
Because of its many benefits and its intense extraction process, Rose oil is rare and valuable. doTERRA chose this Rose oil infused lotion to donate and represent the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation because it embodies the value of the Foundation.
Hope Oil Sales
The doTERRA Hope Blend was released at the 2016 doTERRA Convention, alongside the announcement that nonprofit organization Operation Underground Railroad (OUR Rescue) had been established as an official partner of the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. OUR Rescue is dedicated to rescuing children around the world from sex trafficking and slavery. In 2016 alone, doTERRA donated $500,000 to the organization.
The blend was originally manufactured solely for OUR Rescue to distribute to at-risk children. The original oil label peeled-back to reveal a list of hotline numbers so that at-risk children could call for help.
Due to the high demand of the doTERRA Hope Blend at its release, however, it was determined that this blend would be available for individual sale as well. Although the blend was repackaged for sale to remove the peel back feature, the original oil with the original label continues to be donated to OUR Rescue by doTERRA to promote the efforts of their organization.
Mentors International
The first donations from the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation went toward a microcredit lending fund through the nonprofit organization Mentors International. Through this fund, and the additional funds that have been created over the years, credit is provided to small business owners that do not have access to financing opportunities or whose only lending options are with unethical and even dangerous lenders. The partnership between the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation and Mentors International provides hard-working entrepreneurs with small business loans and education to help them succeed in their business. These loans offer opportunities for personal and family growth and can help them elevate their communities through economic development.
Days for Girls
Days for Girls works to provide every girl in the world the education, safety, and dignity that they deserve through direct distribution of sustainable feminine hygiene kits; by partnering with nonprofits, groups, and organizations; by raising awareness; and by helping communities around the world start their own programs. Thanks to a global grassroots network of thousands of volunteers and supporters on six continents, Days for Girls has reached women and girls in over 100 countries.
Operation Underground Railroad
The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation is proud to be partnering with Operation Underground Railroad (OUR Rescue) to bring healing and hope to the world. OUR Rescue exists to rescue children from sex trafficking by utilizing some of the world’s experts in extraction operations and anti-child trafficking efforts.
OUR Rescue’s Jump Team, consisting of former CIA, Navy SEALs, and Special Ops operatives, lead coordinated identification and extraction efforts to rescue children being trafficked for sex. To ensure perpetuity and sustainability of these extraction efforts, OUR Rescue works with law enforcement in the countries where they rescue children to ensure that everything is done legally and with the support of the local authorities.
The children rescued from these extraction efforts are then rehabilitated by OUR Rescue’s aftercare program, and the perpetrators are arrested, tried, and convicted to ensure that they don’t traffic children again.
In addition to microcredit lending, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation focuses on programs and organizations that work to improve sanitation and water availability, health care, and educational opportunities. To encourage and support the many existing service programs, our Wellness Advocates are able to request assistance from the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation for projects or service programs they are involved with. This type of service falls under Wellness Advocate Partner Projects. To qualify for support, Wellness Advocate projects must achieve the following criteria:
100 percent of all donations to the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation go directly to those receiving aid, so donors can be confident that their donations will be used to help those in need. This is possible because of doTERRA's generous commitment to cover all overhead and administrative costs of the foundation.
Co-Impact Sourcing is a responsible method for sourcing doTERRA essential oils. This type of sourcing occurs in areas of the world that can best sustain plants for essential oils and, most importantly, can help elevate communities out of poverty and desperate need. Thanks to the relationships that have been developed in these Co-Impact Sourcing locations, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has been able to establish humanitarian projects that benefit the hard-working community members in these areas.
