Thailand Launch Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

doTERRA already open in Thailand. We are excited to bring CPTG essential oils to the Thai people.  We have attempted to keep our company, products, business, and culture consistent with all other markets. Changes are driven by local regulatory compliance requirements.  doTERRA will continue to adapt over time to local market conditions and requirements as needed to suit our business model to the needs of our Thai members.  Our main objective during our soft-launch phase is to establish a basic foundation of products and services.

It is important that members keep in mind our main soft-launch objectives, which are:

  1. Launch 80-90 key legally registered doTERRA essential oils and cosmetic skin care products in the Thailand while maintaining our CPTG (Certified Pure Tested Grade) quality and affordable prices.
  2. Convert GAC members to Thai accounts while maintaining genealogical integrity.
  3. Begin local Thai enrollments of new Wholesale Customers and Wellness Advocates.
  4. Establish a compliant and effective environment for product education, sharing, and business building.
  5. Provide competitive, efficient product delivery throughout Thailand.
  6. Implement doTERRA’s Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP).
  7. Begin product promotions and incentive programs.

What are the major differences I can expect and plan for in Thailand?

  1. Product selection: Not all doTERRA products will be immediately available in Thailand.  Strategically, we prefer to enter new markets with a core of our top-selling essential oils and skin care products so that people are not overwhelmed and can focus on the foundational essential oils.  Further, registration requirements prevent us from launching many products initially.  Our goal is to introduce additional oils, as well as other products, strategically, systematically, and as quickly as possible.
  2. Product Pricing: doTERRA does all it can to keep prices low and affordable.  In foreign markets, we often subsidize our cost of doing business according to local market needs, and such is the case in Thailand. However, there are always additional costs of opening and supporting foreign markets, which adds some cost to our product prices. All product prices will be subject to standard 7% VAT (Value Added Tax)
  3. Product Claims: Every country has different regulations governing essential oil marketing and therapeutic claims.  In Thailand we face the same issues as a few other of our large markets. Thailand does not allow for internal use claims, without an exhaustive and lengthy process, in any of our written promotional material, videos, social media, etc. In Thailand, many of our products are registered as aromatic, cosmetic, etc. We will follow the laws of the country.
  4. Payment of Commissions:  doTERRA Thailand will allow for commissions to be paid out via direct deposit.  Commissions will be paid both Bi-weekly and monthly basis.
  5. Marketing Materials and Labelling: Obviously, many doTERRA labels, sales materials, videos, training apps, etc., must be revised to become compliant with local claims and regulations.  It will take time, but we will start with some basic corporate materials and introduce more materials in the coming year.
  6. Product Promotions: We have an aggressive product promotion calendar planned for Thailand. We plan to test various types of promotions, considering local purchasing power and cultural preferences. Standard promotions e.g. POTM (product of the month), 10% off etc. will be applied in Thailand followed by global guideline and direction.
