Today we're excited to talk to Staci Bisset all about diffusing essential oils. Staci, thank you so much for joining us today.
Staci Bisset: Thank you so much for having me. I'm happy to be here.
What is a diffuser?
doTERRA: We are so excited to talk about this topic because I think diffusing is a gateway for a lot of people into essential oils. So, to start with, what is a diffuser? How do they work?
Staci: So, a diffuser is this cool little device that disperses essential oils into the air of whatever space that the diffuser is located in.
doTERRA: And how is that diffuser any different than, say, a traditional humidifier that a lot of people have in their homes?
Staci: Well, the most popular kind of diffuser, the ones that I like to use, are ultrasonic. So, that means that it uses vibration in the water tank to disperse essential oil into the air, into a fine mist.
Now, most people are familiar with what a humidifier is, and their job is to increase the level of moisture in the air. But an essential oil diffuser is different because it is just putting aroma into the air versus changing the air quality.
What can you diffuse?
doTERRA: Absolutely. And when it comes to diffusing, can you diffuse any essential oil?
Staci: Well, it depends on the kind of oil that you use. But if you're using doTERRA oils, I would say, yes, there's a lot to choose from when it comes to oils, and it's really up to personal preference and depends on the kind of outcome that you desire.
So, if you want to create a calming environment for sleep, I like to reach for Lavender or Cedarwood or doTERRA Serenity blend.
doTERRA: Absolutely. And like you said, there are so many choices, which is so amazing. So, you mentioned a few different oils you like. How else do you like to use diffusers in your everyday life?
Staci: When I got started with using essential oils seven years ago almost now, I started out with just one diffuser in my bedroom, and I started with Lavender and Frankincense and that became my nightly go to routine.
And I really fell in love with the aroma of all of the doTERRA oils, and I quickly incorporated them into our everyday life. Now I have a diffuser in almost every room of our house, including the bathroom.
And my family really likes to diffuse based on their personal needs and their personal favorites, especially at bedtime or during homework time, or when we're entertaining or even if we're just not feeling our best.
Staci’s Favorite Diffusers
doTERRA: Right. And like you said, you have a diffuser in basically every room now, so you're a little bit of an expert. What are a few of your favorite doTERRA diffusers that they offer?
Staci: I really love the Volo diffuser. I have the white marbled one and it looks really beautiful with the decor of my home, and I have that in our main living space, and I love to do that one because it can run for almost 14 hours, which I turn it on in the morning and it'll go all day long, right?
I also love the sleek Laluz diffuser. I have that one in my bedroom. And one of my favorites is actually the Pilot diffuser, which is portable. So, I can take that from the kitchen to my office or even put it in the car because car diffusing is magical. It's one of my favorites.
doTERRA: Yes, I totally agree. And like you said, the Pilot is so nice because you only have to fill up one diffuser, but then you can take it everywhere with you instead of filling up every diffuser with the scent that you want that day.
Staci: Exactly.
Great Oils to Diffuse
doTERRA: Now, I know you mentioned a couple oils you really got into when you started diffusing. What are some of your other favorite diffuser blends?
Staci: I loved doTERRA oils and you guys really make the best blends that are out there, but I like to come up with my own diffuser blends. It's fun to experiment, go up to my oil shelf and pick something that is calling my name and create my own special blends.
And sometimes I find great blends by accident. My young daughter was having some trouble at bedtime, and I created a blend for her by accident that worked really magically creating a great environment for sleep.
And it's a combination of Vetiver and Roman Chamomile, and I call it the Sleeping Beauty blend. So, I love that one.
Back when the Black Spruce essential oil came out, I was having some fun playing with that one and figuring out, Ooh, what kind of diffuser blends do I want to make with this? And I ended up making a blend that reminds me of my favorite unisex cologne from the nineties that a famous designer created.
So, I call this blend my, my nineties vibe blend. And it is Black Spruce with Bergamot essential oil in it. And it smells so much like that unisex cologne that we all loved in the nineties.
doTERRA: Well, that combination sounds amazing that really richness of the Black Spruce and the lightness of the Bergamot. I have to try that one for sure.
Staci: I also really love taking a doTERRA blend and adding on to it with a single oil. So anytime I'm grabbing on garb to diffuse in the living room, I like to add something else to just spice it up. So, sometimes I add Lemon to it and then that is an excellent blend. And then my whole family can benefit from it because I'm diffusing it into our common space.
doTERRA: Yes, absolutely. Like you said, kind of boosting those blends with whatever else you might need a little bit extra of. I love that.
Staci: Absolutely.
doTERRA: Now, Staci, I think some people get a little intimidated when they look at how many essential oils doTERRA has to offer, how many different diffusers we have to offer. What are your recommendations for people who are unfamiliar with diffusing but want to start?
Staci: So, diffusing is probably the easiest way to get started using oils. It's how I got started, and it did make me more confident in using the oils in other ways. So, I suggest getting started with one of doTERRA's starter kits. A lot of them come with diffusers and the one I picked was the Petal diffuser and it had the top ten most popular and most used oils in it. And with the recommendation of my best friend that got me started, I came across my favorite blend for the nighttime, and that's Frankincense and Lavender.
So, I think getting started with a kit is a really smart way to go, and I definitely haven't regretted it since.
doTERRA: Well, I think that is fantastic advice. It really takes all the guesswork out of it and really sets you up for success. I totally agree.
Staci: Absolutely.
doTERRA: Staci, thank you so much for being here with us today for teaching us more about diffusers and for sharing some of your favorite recommendations.
