Are you ready to jump into using essential oils but aren’t sure where to start? Let’s talk about nine essential oil must-haves for anyone looking to elevate their wellness routine.
First up is Lavender essential oil, known for its soothing and calming aroma. It's a favorite for creating a peaceful environment or simply adding a comforting touch to your nightly routine. It has a unique freshness to it that smells so clean and bright. It has a comforting aroma.
Lavender can be used all throughout your day, not just for bedtime as it’s classically known for. It's also a skin calming oil and gives you great aromatherapy benefits when applied to skin. Not only is Lavender relaxing to your skin but it relaxes your mind when used internally. * It’s like a multi-tool; the uses are endless.
This oil brings a bright and refreshing aroma wherever it's used. It's perfect for sprucing up your home or adding an uplifting touch to your day. Lemon can also be taken internally for its powerful cleansing benefits. * It’s a very universal essential oil.
A random, but fun and useful way to use Lemon essential oil is to apply it to sticky residue. Something sticky on your shoes? Apply a little Lemon and it will come right off. It can also be used in DIY cleaning supplies or room sprays for its cleansing benefits and of course, its cheery smell.
The aroma of Peppermint essential oil is an energizer and refresher. Peppermint has cooling properties that make it a favorite for creating a fresh and invigorating atmosphere. Dr. Nicole Stevens, vice president of clinical research gives some ways to use Peppermint essential oil:
An essential that really promotes feelings of clears airways is doTERRA Breathe. Scott Johnson, director of research substantiation at doTERRA, shares how he uses doTERRA Breathe to create moments of clarity and calm:
“One of my favorite things is to diffuse doTERRA Breathe at night. And the reason I like to diffuse it at night is because the constituents in it, particularly that 1, 8 cineole have been shown in research to help support a relaxing or calm environment. That is great for sleep because you're inhaling all of these great constituents. This helps create an environment where you can relax better.
You can apply doTERRA Breathe topically. Dilution is the best practice when applying. A great place to apply it is to the chest area, and that's because you're going to inhale all those constituents as they flash off of your body and go up into the air. Essential oils have volatile aromatic compounds, and so they will flash off and go into the air, and you'll inhale that. In a pinch, you can inhale it directly from the bottle too. Another idea is palm diffusing. Take the bottle and put a drop or two in your palm, rub it together, cup your hands over your nose and mouth, and inhale. You’ll feel that cold receptor right there in your nasal passage.”
doTERRA Serenity is the essential oil blend to help you create a tranquil environment. It sets the mood for relaxation and calm. To create the blend, the most calming, relaxing essential oil aromas we know of, have been studied in literature, and helped millions for generations, were gathered.
One of those is Lavender. It has linalool and linalool acetate. Those constituents offer relaxing aromas. Interestingly, Coriander is in there. It has another kind of linalool in it. The combination of these essential oils creates a beautifully calming blend, bringing a reminder of peace to any space it’s used in.
Next up is Oregano essential oil. This is one of those oils that's good to have on hand for its robust and herbaceous aroma. It's a kitchen favorite and pairs wonderfully with other oils and blends. Oregano can be used as a cleanser when combined with other essential oils. doTERRA On Guard® has Oregano in it, but it is diluted with some other oils. You can take Oregano in a Veggie Cap but remember to dilute it with a carrier oil or even olive oil. Because it is so helpful for the GI tract, it's helpful for our digestive system when ingested.*
Oregano can also be used topically. We absorb about 64 percent of the chemistry we put on topically. Being aware that it is a hot oil and using it appropriately, we will most likely absorb it very well.
One of the best ways to use Oregano is cooking with it. That way we easily take advantage of the internal benefits.* However, remember that Thymol is a very robust compound and heat can break this. Add Oregano after you heat up your dish, so the cooking process doesn't break down some of that chemistry. Enjoy the powerful flavor it adds to every dish!
After all that cooking advice, let's bring some sunshine into the mix with Wild Orange essential oil. Its bright, citrusy aroma makes it a favorite for creating a cheerful and inviting atmosphere. Lauren Bush, director of education, shares her favorite ways to use Wild Orange:
“Some of my favorite ways to incorporate Wild Orange is anytime that I am looking for an aroma that is calming, I like pairing calming and uplifting together. doTERRA Serenity for some people might smell a little sweet. You add in some Wild Orange into it, and it just changes it up completely. My kids love doTERRA Serenity and Wild Orange together.
I love DIYs because I have a big family, so anytime I can DIY things, it’s super fun. Wild Orange and olive oil is great for polishing your furniture. Just use a couple of drops. It’s very nourishing for your wood but it also smells good.
Just like all our other citrus oils, Wild Orange is good for getting sticky residue off surfaces, which is so helpful when you have little kids.
I love it anytime you can add Wild Orange, or any of our amazing citrus oils that are high in limonene, to a water bottle. It gives you a beautiful cleansing benefit all day.* Plus, it makes water a little easier to drink when it tastes like Wild Orange.”
Frankincense is often called the king of oils for its grounding and balancing aroma. Its rich aroma is perfect for enhancing your meditation or skincare routines.
doTERRA founders, Emily Wright and Dr. David Hill always keep Frankincense on hand. They both love using it on-the-go. The roll-on bottle and stick make it easy to apply to your hands or face. Emily and Dr. Hill wanted convenience when it came to Frankincense because of the diverse benefits, especially when applying it topically.
The addition of Naio Wood, to the Frankincense Stick, is high in alpha bisabol, complimenting Frankincense to bring out good, healthy-looking skin. Try Frankincense products in all their forms!
Deep Blue, one of the most popular products at doTERRA, is best used when we need recovery and relief. Dr. Brannick Riggs, vice president of essential oil education, suggests using Deep Blue products anytime you have occasional discomfort or have exerted yourself with exercises or physical activities you don’t participate in often.
Dr. Riggs likes using Deep Blue Stick or Rub after he’s taken a hot shower and his skin is red. After drying off, he massages Deep Blue anywhere he needs it. The hot water from the shower opens pores which helps skin absorb all the chemistry. He goes through the hot and then cold process that Deep Blue provides. The next day he always feels great, with no previously affected areas bothering him.
Before Dr. Riggs goes on a run, he loves applying Deep Blue products to his knees and bottoms of his feet. He always feels refreshed and ready to take on another run the very next day!
Use Deep Blue and all its variations in whichever ways work and benefit you most. It’s always helpful when there are multiple ways to apply a product.
