Most lavender oil isn’t what it claims to be —here’s why dōTERRA is different.

Did you know most lavender oils on the market aren’t what they claim to be? A 2022 study by the National Center for Natural Product Research analyzed dozens of lavender oil samples. The study revealed two-thirds were found to be highly adulterated and poor quality, meaning they were mislabeled, had fillers and additives, and/or contained compounds that were of synthetic origin. Many people may think they’re buying “pure” lavender oil from their local store, but really, they’re paying for fillers and potentially harmful, synthetic ingredients.

At doTERRA, we know that the purity of an essential oil is its most important characteristic. An essential oil that isn’t pure means you run the risk of putting germs or adulterants onto or into your body, which can provoke irritation, adverse effects, or even sickness. So, what does doTERRA do to ensure our Lavender meets our CPTG Standard? We test, and we test, and we test… and we test.

In fact, we went back and looked at the results of 141 batches of doTERRA Lavender essential oil from over multiple years to evaluate our own quality and consistency, specifically looking at the primary chemical constituents of Lavender—linalool and linalyl acetate. These chemical components are what give Lavender its calming, soothing aroma, and cleansing properties. But did you know that the ISO standard for linalool content is 20-45% and linalyl acetate is 25-47%? With ISO ranges like that, the quality of lavender oil can vary drastically meaning your results can vary too depending on what brand you’re using.

The powerful effects of doTERRA Lavender essential oil come from its unique chemical composition made possible through our Co-Impact Sourcing model. Our own investigation of linalool and linalyl acetate in doTERRA Lavender oil showed incredible consistency from batch to batch over multiple years. Of the 141 batches of doTERRA Lavender we tested, each batch had a linalool content of 33.45% with a deviation of 1.26% from batch to batch. Our linalyl acetate content was 30.43% with a deviation of 1.76%. Our consistency batch to batch, year over year, is made possible because of the great lengths doTERRA goes to in pursuit of purity. Through Co-Impact Sourcing, we harvest lavender where it naturally thrives, allowing us to produce the highest-quality oil with the optimal chemical profile. Then, through rigorous testing, we ensure our Lavender essential oil is of the highest quality and consistently rich in linalool and linalyl acetate—providing you with the same pure, safe, and effective essential oil in every bottle.

The Science Behind doTERRA Lavender’s Benefits

The powerful effects of doTERRA Lavender essential oil come from its unique chemical composition. The primary constituents—linalool and linalyl acetate—are known for their calming, soothing aroma, and cleansing properties. Linalool helps promote relaxation and ease feelings of tension, making Lavender ideal for stress relief and sleep support when used internally.* Linalyl acetate contributes to Lavender’s ability to soothe the skin. These compounds work together to give Lavender its gentle, yet highly effective benefits, making it one of the most versatile essential oils for everyday use.

The Calming Benefits of Lavender

One of Lavender’s most well-known benefits is its ability to promote a relaxing environment for reducing feelings of stress and tension. The soothing aroma of Lavender essential oil has been widely studied for its ability to create a sense of calm and balance, making it perfect for busy moms who juggle the many demands of daily life. Whether diffused in the home, applied topically, or added to a warm bath, Lavender can transform even the most hectic day into a moment of peace. Research also suggests the soothing aroma of Lavender helps create a supportive environment for relaxing and de-stressing. Try dropping three drops of oil into your hands, rub them together, cup over your mouth and nose, and breathe deep.

Adding Lavender to your family’s evening routine can help everyone wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.

Natural Skin Soothing Properties
