The English Model was introduced by Madame Marguerite Maury in the 1950s and is based on the principle that essential oils are absorbed trans-dermally. Her original interest in various beauty techniques led to her observation that when used correctly, certain oils could promote healthier and younger-looking skin and hair. Madam Maury believed that safety was of concern when essential oils were used internally. As a result of her belief, this new model of topical application was lauded as the only acceptable or appropriate model to be used.
Topical application of essential oils has been shown to have numerous advantages. There has been research and studies performed regarding the power of touch. Massaging the oils into the skin or making a hot compress can help enhance the benefits of massage. Essential oils are powerful and can be diluted for topical use if the potency of the oils causes irritation. Diluting essential oils reduces the concentration but increases the absorption, allowing the body to still benefit from the effects of the oils.
