DIY Oil-Balancing Face Mask

With Lavender and Bergamot

Enjoy some self-care with this oil-balancing face mask. It uses natural ingredients—including some favorite essential oils—to help your skin feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Soothing Lavender essential oil reduces the appearance of skin imperfections, while Bergamot essential oil provides skin-cleansing benefits.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon organic liquid honey
1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
2 drops Bergamot essential oil
2 drops Lavender essential oil
1 tablespoon facial clay
Filtered water (as needed)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the honey and sweet almond oil. Stir with a metal spoon until smooth.
  2. Add the essential oils and continue stirring.
  3. Slowly add the facial clay in small amounts, stirring to maintain a smooth consistency.
  4. If needed, add filtered water a teaspoon at a time to reach a smooth yet firm consistency that can be spread on the skin without being too thin or runny.
  5. Using a spoon or your fingers, apply the mask to the face a teaspoon at a time, starting at the center and working out toward the hairline.
  6. Allow the mask to stay on until dry—normally 20 minutes.
  7. To remove, soften the mask by lightly pressing a damp, warm cloth against the face. Then use the cloth to remove the mask, rinsing as necessary.
  8. Splash the face with water and dry with a clean cloth to remove any leftover clay.

DIY Ginger Lime Brown Sugar Scrub

If you’re looking to exfoliate and soften your skin, this DIY is just what you need. The sugar scrub works best when used on the feet, hands, and arms one to two times a week.

Ingredients:

¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup turbinado sugar
½ cup Fractionated Coconut Oil
10 drops Lime essential oil
5 drops Ginger essential oil
Note: Turbinado sugar is a large-grained sugar that helps with deep exfoliation. If you don’t have turbinado sugar, you can use all-brown sugar.

Instructions:

  1. Combine the brown sugar, turbinado sugar, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and essential oils in bowl, stirring until well combined.
  2. Store in airtight container.
  3. To use, apply a small amount to the target area and scrub for 30 seconds or until sugar dissolves. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

DIY Body Wash

If you’re worried about the ingredients in store-bought body washes, make your own! Not only will this give you an all-natural option, but you can also customize the body wash to include your favorite aromas by using essential oils.

Ingredients:

8-ounce glass pump bottle
½ cup unscented Castile soap
4 tablespoons vegetable glycerin
3 tablespoons Fractionated Coconut Oil
10 drops of your favorite essential oil
Recommended essential oils: For an uplifting aroma, try Citrus Bliss®, Peppermint, Grapefruit, Lime, or Eucalyptus. For a relaxing scent, try Lavender, doTERRA Serenity®, Bergamot, Geranium, or Roman Chamomile.

Instructions:

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a glass pump bottle.
  2. Add the desired essential oil.
  3. Shake to combine.

Note: Make sure to shake before each use, as the ingredients will separate.

DIY Makeup Brush Cleanser

When did you last clean your makeup brushes? Did you know dead skin can hang around on brushes, especially if they aren’t cleaned frequently? This DIY, using Tea Tree and Grapefruit essential oils, makes sure your skin is clean the next time you get dolled up.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons Fractionated Coconut Oil
5 drops Tea Tree essential oil
5 drops Grapefruit essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Add the Fractionated Coconut Oil and essential oils to a small bowl.
  2. Swirl a makeup brush in the bowl for 30 seconds or until you see the makeup stored in the brush start coming out.
  3. Rub in a circular motion on the palm of the hand to help get residual makeup out.
  4. Rinse the brush under warm water. Gently squeeze the brush bristles until clean and the water runs clear.
Note: Point the bristles down when running under water. Direct water contact may loosen the glue where the bristles attach and shorten the life of your brush.
  5. Let the newly cleaned makeup brush dry on a towel for four hours or until dry. Repeat once a month, as needed.
