Today, we're excited to talk to Andrea Sanchez about how you can build a habit of happiness. Andrea, thank you so much for joining us today.
Andrea Sanchez: Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited!
doTERRA: I am excited as well to talk about this topic. I think it's a really exciting one. Before we start, my first question is what does it mean to build a habit and how can we help ourselves build a habit?
Andrea: Sure. To me, I think building a habit is something small, but over time it's going to make a big impact in my life and hopefully a positive impact. And I’m someone who wants to either write something down or like have it visual to help me create a new habit.
doTERRA: I love that. That visualization can be so helpful as a reminder.
Andrea: Yeah! Putting it in your phone, like you're scheduling it in your calendar so you get a little reminder on your calendar or, you know, like a text or setting an alarm, just doing something like that I have found is really helpful in just reminding me and keeping me on track when I want to start something like a new habit.
doTERRA: Absolutely. Now on the other side of this topic, you know, we have a habit of happiness. So what is your advice for cultivating happiness in our lives?
Andrea: Of course, there is using essential oils, and something that I do every day is diffuse or use my oils topically and/or internally. That is a big part of my habit that has been paid off really big.
And then another thing that I really like to do is make a gratitude list. And as I mentioned before, I'm very visual. So writing it down and like seeing it has been really helpful when I am having a hard day or going through a hard season just to kind of remind myself and look like, “Oh yeah, I do have things to be grateful for and thankful for” when you are having a hard time.
doTERRA: I think that's such a fun idea and like you said, so helpful if you do end up having a hard day to look back. I think that's wonderful.
Andrea: Yeah. So I like doing those two things. And then another thing that I really think to help cultivate happiness is moving your body, getting outside. That doesn't have to mean necessarily like exercising. But I think that is something that's helpful. But even for me, sometimes just walking around in my neighborhood for 20–30 minutes, like just being out, seeing the trees, seeing the little bees fly by, seeing a flower that's in my neighbor's yard or just something like that is really helpful in shifting my mindset from maybe something I was worrying about or feeling stuck about just to have, like a fresh perspective.
doTERRA: Absolutely. Now, Andrea, you mentioned using essential oils to help you, you know, cultivating happiness. How can we use those essential oils either aromatically or topically to help affect our environment as we build this habit of happiness?
Andrea: I think that setting yourself up for success by having a diffuser station is something that's really easy, but something really powerful that you can do.
So I have diffusers in every room of my house, but I'll put a few oils by each diffuser and then either have them filled up with water. Or you can have a little carafe of water or water bottle nearby, so it's easy and ready to go. I think that's something that's going to be super helpful. And it just kind of eliminates those steps of searching for something. It's right there for you. And then all you have to do is put those oils in your diffuser, hit start, and then that helps create that positive environment.doTERRA: And are there any specific oils that you like to create that positive environment for yourself?
Andrea: Yes, Wild Orange is my favorite. I call it my ride or die oil. I go through it quite a bit. Wild Orange, I feel like it's one of those oils that can be paired with anything. So I really like tree oils as well. So I'll usually pair Wild Orange with maybe Holiday Peace or Arborvitae. And then if I'm needing a little bit extra support, I can throw in something like Adaptiv™ or a flower.
doTERRA: Well, that sounds great. Wild Orange is definitely one of my favorites, too, especially when you're looking for that positive environment. Finally, Andrea, my last question is what doTERRA products do you recommend or do you use internally to help when maybe we're stressed or worried or just have some big emotions that we're trying to deal with?
Andrea: Yeah, internally, I love to take Copaiba, either the softgels or just the oil under my tongue to help me when I'm feeling a little bit anxious, just to help me feel a little bit more calm.
And then Frankincense is a great one. I feel like when in doubt, Frankincense is a great one just to support when you're taking it internally. But also, you know, you're getting all those other benefits for all those other systems of the body.
And then if I'm really feeling like stressed, then I'll take an Adaptiv Capsule. So I like the ABC effect, so I can either take Adaptiv, use it in the diffuser, or put it topically over my body, or again, take the capsule.
And then I like to use dōTERRA Balance® over my chest or maybe on the back of my neck and then Copaiba. And then, depending on how I'm feeling, sometimes it's on my neck. Sometimes I'm taking it internally.
doTERRA: Absolutely. And I love that ABC concept that you talked about, where you're not just relying on the topical or the aromatic or the internal, but you're combining them and really utilizing and harnessing the power of those essential oils.
Andrea: Yeah, it's been really helpful. I feel like not just in making a more peaceful environment, but also just supporting my body, supporting when I do feel like I need to tackle some stressful things.
doTERRA: Absolutely. Andrea, thank you so much for sitting down and talking with us today, for teaching us a little bit more, not just about building habits, but how to, you know, focus on that happiness in our lives and get rid of some of the stress.
Andrea: Thank you!
