Today we're excited to talk to Allison Preiss about how you can protect against environmental threats.

Allison, thank you so much for being here today.

Allison: Yeah, absolutely. It's my pleasure. Thanks for having me.

Lifestyle Changes

doTERRA: Before we get started, I want to start with kind of just a foundational question about our lifestyle. What adjustments can I make to my lifestyle to help protect my family against these environmental threats?

Allison: That's a great question. And it's not a one and done answer type of you know, I can't just give you one answer, but there are some foundational things that you can do.

Of course, diet is going to be that basic building block at the core of your foundation. And then proper supplementation for sure. That's a big one as well. And then also, I think the one that gets skipped over the most is being more conscious about reducing your toxic load, your exposure to toxicities just in your environment, in your everyday life.

I think it's something that we need to definitely pay more attention to.

doTERRA: I think that is totally correct and that leads perfectly into the next question I have for you which is, how can I protect my home, my environment against these environmental threats?

Protecting Your Home

Allision: Yes. So, I love this question, and it's one of my favorite statistics to share with people that your indoor environment in your home is two to five times more polluted than outdoor environments, which is crazy. And when you think about it, we have way more control over what's going on inside our home than outside. So, when it comes to protecting ourselves, our family from these environmental threats inside, there's a lot that we can do.

First and foremost, get rid of synthetic products, synthetic cleaning products, synthetic personal care products. You must, must, must start to be more conscious about the ones that you choose to use and the ingredients that are contained within them. That is huge.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And I think once you start down that path, it's always a little bit surprising what you find in the products that you've been using for years or decades even.

Allison: Oh, for sure. And I always joke around when I'm teaching people that I have a degree in marketing, so I feel like it's okay for me to kind of dog on the industry. But a lot of times labels are pretty and they use enticing words. We refer to it as greenwashing, where they're using the marketing and the words to make you think that it could be a more clean ingredient product. But that's not always necessarily the case.

doTERRA: Absolutely. So, looking for some better options. What products does doTERRA have to help me protect myself and my family against environmental threats?

doTERRA Products for Environmental Threats

Allison: Oh, gosh. Everything okay? So, everybody, you can't make a wrong choice when you're choosing doTERRA products. And so, it comes down to more of where do you want to place your focus first?

And I feel like doTERRA definitely has us set up for success, especially in, they have the On Guard family and then we also have the newer Abode family. So, there are so many product options within each of those that are going to help us protect against environmental threats.

And there are so many key players that I have used for over a decade now within the On Guard family, just, for example, the On Guard Cleaning Concentrate. I use it for so many things, from cleaning my bathroom to I just mopped the floors the other day with it.

And if I steam clean my carpets instead of using those toxic shampoos on the market for steam cleaners, I just give a little squirt of the On Guard Cleaner Concentrate. And then, of course, we've got the On Guard Hand Sanitizers in our purses and our book bags and then our lunchboxes.

There's so many options, but doTERRA really categorizes it for us so that we can be successful no matter what choice we make.

doTERRA: Yes. And one of my favorite things about the Abode line and the On Guard link, you're using it to clean your house to do different things. And, you know the ingredients are clean and they're natural. But the other is that they smell so good, and you're not left with any strange chemical-y smell or anything like that.

Allison: Yeah, absolutely. And especially now, any time that I'm introducing somebody specifically to On Guard, a lot of people reminisce with the smell. It takes them back to holidays because you've got the Cinnamon in it and you have Clove in it. And so, it really has right now, as we're in fall autumn, moving into winter and the holidays, it's just that perfect aroma that's fit for the season.

On Guard Hand Sanitizing Gel

doTERRA: I agree with that completely. Now, Allison, you mentioned the On Guard family, at convention this year we announced the new On Guard Sanitizing Gel. How does the sanitizing gel help me protect against environmental threats?

Allison: Yes. My family loves, loves, loves this new sanitizing gel. So, I just I can't keep it. Every time I turn around, somebody's stealing it out of my purse and my car. And it's so great because over the last few years, I've personally done so much research on hand sanitizers because they're everywhere. Right? They're just everywhere. And so, what makes the On Guard Hand Sanitizing Gel so unique is that it's 70% plant derived, ethyl alcohol based. And so, it has the capability to kill off 99.9% of most common germs that we come into contact with.

And then there's some other great things about it. Of course, it's free of parabens, triclosan and your phthalates, which are a lot of those nasty ingredients that run rampant in all kinds of personal care products and cleaning products, not even just hand sanitizers.

And then for myself in particular, I get very dry skin on my hands in the winter. So, I have to be extra conscious about the products that I choose to use. And the On Guard Sanitizing Gel, it contains an apple extract and glycerin, which allows it to evaporate quickly. And it's less drying on your skin, which is phenomenal for me and my dry skin issues in the wintertime.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And I think all of those things combined, when you look at the On Guard sanitizing gel versus these other hand sanitizers on the market, it kind of puts it head and shoulders above the rest. It seems like such a better choice, especially with little kids with, like you said, where your skin is really dry during the winter. Just those little things start to stack up. And it's like, of course, why wouldn't I choose this one?

Allison: Yes, absolutely. I would use it on the littlest of littles in my family all the way. You know, any age it's perfect for.

Allison‘s Daily Routine

doTERRA: Yes. Now, Allison, before we end, what does your daily routine look like to make sure that you're protecting you and your house and your family against environmental threats?

Allison: That's a great question. And we could definitely be here all day as I walk you through our routine. You know, in the morning, again, the On Guard family is a huge part of our daily routine. I mean, when we wake up, we're using the On Guard Toothpaste and Mouthwash in the morning. My husband and I are taking our Lifelong Vitality Pack and our new MetaPWR products, which were in love with.

And then we have the On Guard Foaming Hand Soap at every sink within our home. So, we live on a farm. We are washing our hands a lot when we're coming into the house. So, it's always the foaming hand soap.

And then depending on the person and what they've got going on, my kids usually like to pop the On Guard Chewable Tablets before they head off to school. And if we're feeling like we need a little bit of a little bit more of support for our immune system, we may take an On Guard+ Softgel instead. And then I always love to tuck some of the On Guard Wipes in the little individual packets. Those go into everybody's lunch for the day.

As I mentioned, I clean with the On Guard Cleaner Concentrate. I've always got On Guard running in diffusers in my home throughout the day or in the evening while the kids fall asleep. So really, it's just every aspect of our day incorporates doTERRA in some way, shape or form.
