Today, we're excited to talk to Samantha Lewis, a member of the doTERRA Product Marketing team, about how you can support your immune system all year. Plus, we'll talk a little bit about the history of Tangerine.

doTERRA: Samantha, thank you so much for being back with us today.

Samantha: I'm excited to be back and excited to talk about a really fun topic.

doTERRA: Absolutely. I think the immune system gets talked about so much, especially this time of year. So let's talk even more about it. And I want to start off by asking, how do proper daily wellness habits affect our immune system?

Samantha: Our daily habits really play a crucial role in influencing the strength of our immune system overall. Our immune system is this amazing network of cells and tissues that defends us against harmful environmental threats. And we really need to do what we can to support this daily. Or we can compromise our immune system function and weaken over time, which we don't want to do. We want to support it, to support the strength. It's important to remember, though, that a holistic approach is key. So we'll talk through some of that today.

By combining positive, healthy habits into your daily routine, it creates the synergistic effect boosting your immune system's resilience, which is something we all desperately need, especially this time of year. While no single habit can, like, supercharge your immunity, consistent, mindful choices toward a healthy lifestyle can have powerful impacts on your body's immune system.

doTERRA: I think you're absolutely right. And on that note, I know you said there aren't just magic habits that are going to change your life overnight, but could you tell us about maybe 1 or 2 simple habits that our listeners could adopt now to help support a healthy immune system?

Samantha: Absolutely. I feel like most of us often know, like the quote unquote, right things to do, like eating right exercise, restful sleep and so on. But what really can be hard is making these right things so simple it's almost more difficult not to do. That's really how I've been approaching habits is making it so simple, it's harder not to do than it is to do then implement. And as these habits have grown and grown, the more I do them, I'm able to see the benefits in my life and my health.

For example, I know restful sleep is a key piece of supporting your immune system, and it's also something I do daily. So I figured, you know what? I sleep every day. You know, hopefully we're all sleeping every day. So I'm going to get a restful night's sleep. So simple, every single night that doing these steps is easier to do than not to do. So I've got my Serenity products on my bedside table with my diffuser ready to go. As I go to plug in my phone for the night, I'm reminded, oh, I need to fill my diffuser. It's right there.

Apply the Sleep Stick all over, and then I take this Serenity Soft Gel. Honestly, the hardest part about this whole routine is just setting up the product on my bedside table. It's so simple, so easy to do, and I've seen such incredible impacts from this one little habit. Next. And this is something I do seasonally, so it's not like a full daily routine. But every season I kind of changed some things up because I have to support my body in different ways. So right now I have a key blend of essential oils that I know support healthy immune system set out in my kitchen next to my little diffuser. When I'm taking my MetaPWR Advantage, I grab these oils and either make like a veggie cap or just drop some into my glass, mix it up, and I know I've taken oils that support my immune system. So this blend that I combine is Cinnamon, Tangerine, Melissa, or Lemongrass depending on what I have on hand, and Copaiba. I usually do 1 to 2 drops of each of those. While I'm adding these into my glass, mixing that up, I also often add most of them to my diffuser for that extra aroma boost throughout my home.

I know it's going to help me all day long, not only internally, but aromatically. And and I know you asked for two, but I have one more key habit to add. Getting outside in the sunshine daily, especially during the wintertime. There's less like sunshine throughout the day and there is a healthy amount of sun exposure our bodies need to produce vitamin D, so taking that time while the sun is out, while we have a limited supply of it in the winter time, we can really play a key role in supporting our immune function.

We do want to find that balance though, so make sure you get that healthy sun exposure and then use sunscreen during the other times of the day.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And I think we've all noticed that if we're just getting outside and getting the sun exposure, but also just the fresh air, just overall life feels better, which is another added benefit.

Samantha: I totally agree, it's a game changer. Like that mental, physical kind of combination of getting outside.

doTERRA: So you mentioned a few of your favorites right now. Could you talk about maybe some other doTERRA products that you would recommend for people to include in their routines to support that healthy immune system?

Samantha: So we talked about the Serenity Sleep ritual, which honestly I can't live without. Now and then a couple of those oils that I use to support myself, but proactively. I also use Deep Blue to support my body through the daily movement. That's another key way to support your immune system is daily movement and exercise. So whether that is going on a walk during lunchtime, getting my sunshine as well, or an actual workout to support my immune system, I find Deep Blue really helps my body. You know, just kind of get through those kinds of things.

I love the motivating environment that that aroma can kind of support with the Peppermint. I love love deep blue. I also regularly use Adaptive as a tool when stress and tension is just kind of more heightened. I think people underestimate just how important stress management is to support your immune system. So one habit I'm currently working on implementing is daily mindfulness and meditation, supported by Adaptive or Balance. I have my favorite app, have little reminders set on my phone to remind me, hey, take five minutes right now, do a meditation.

I'll smell my Balance, roll on my Adaptive. And I've really found that I'm able to tackle difficult tasks better and I'm just more grounded, which also in turn has seemed to help me make smarter daily choices to support my overall well-being. So not only am I helping to manage my stress throughout the day, but being more grounded helps me make some more positive choices. I know I'm missing some key things like microbiome, hydration, foundational nutrition, but I hope those are areas of your health that you are already supporting.

If not, definitely dive into how to better implement things to support your microbiome, to increase your hydration, and to really hone in that foundational nutrition your body will seriously thank you.

doTERRA: I think you're absolutely right. And I love how you talked about kind of the cycle of things. The better you're doing in one area, the more decisions you'll make that support your health and other areas. I think that's a beautiful concept. Now, finally, before we end, I want to make sure we touch on those moments where maybe we need a little bit extra support. So maybe we're feeling under the weather. We are having a hard time and our immune system is needing that extra support. What products do you recommend using then?

Samantha: Yeah, this is definitely a time where those habits are going to fall into place and support you the best they possibly can, but it doesn't mean that that's the fix all. It doesn't mean that's the end all be all. So there definitely are products and habits that we can implement when we're not feeling our best or even, you know, when we like, hey, I've been around someone who is not feeling well. I need to implement some additional things to support my body. My go to is On Guard Tablets. The combination of vitamins, beta glucan and then the On Guard blend are so key in supporting my immune system whenever I'm concerned about external environmental threats. We literally at my house go through a couple bags of this every winter. It's also a frequent gift that I give to people, because it has made such a positive impact in my life, and they're so easy to take, and they actually kind of taste good. I always kind of compared them to like, it's like a spicy cinnamon. Like just lightly spicy cinnamon sweet candy, which I love. And they support your body. But then I will also use that same oil blend I mentioned with the Cinnamon, the Tangerine, Melissa and Copaiba, but I'll add Oregano to it when I need some additional support.

I take this internally, usually in a veggie cap, so any time I add the oregano, I put it in a veggie cab, with a carrier oil, you can actually use doTERRA coconut oil, It's like an MCT type to really soften the blow on my digestive tract, but I find that this really supports my immune system when I need it most. Like you're saying, when you're just not feeling your best and especially during the colder months.

doTERRA: I love all of those recommendations, and I think that's a great reminder of just how powerful Oregano can be. And to just treat it with a little bit of caution, make sure you're taking the proper steps when you're taking Oregano internally or putting it on your skin.

Samantha: Definitely. I feel like Oregano is one that you it has a lot of respect because I know how incredible it is. But you know, we definitely want to use some caution topically. Internally. I don't really use the aromatic oily, you know, I don't love my house to smell like the Italian restaurant. But if that's your thing, go for it. But yeah, Oregano is is a really incredible add on to my wellness routine that I have loved and pick that habit up from Bekah Nixon here at doTERRA. She's been a great, you know, supporter of a lot of this immune health, to which I've just been loving learning more about it.

So hopefully some of that wisdom has been passed on. And there's some habits that you guys can implement, and new products that you can try and bring into your routine.

doTERRA: Absolutely. Samantha, thank you so much for passing on some of that wisdom and that knowledge and teaching us a little bit more about supporting our immune system, no matter what time of year.

Samantha: Yeah, thank you so much. I hope that there's some, you know, new habits you guys can implement. Excited to hear what comes of it.

doTERRA: Round, Golden and sweet, the Tangerine has been beloved by people around the world. The history of the tangerine is quite long, and the tangerine is in fact actually a variety of the mandarin orange. And the name tangerine originates from Tangier, Morocco, because that was the port where the very first batches of tangerines were shipped to Europe. Tangerines have been cultivated for over 3000 years in countries like Japan and China.

However, this amazing fruit did not arrive in the United States until the mid-19th century. The first batch of tangerines was brought to America when the Italian consul in New Orleans decided to plant it on the grounds surrounding the consulate. From New Orleans, the tangerine was taken to Florida, and it became a commercial crop like other citrus fruits. Experts estimate that we started cultivating mandarins 80,000 years ago, but the earliest hard evidence dates back about 4,000 years, with a recording of mandarins being gifted to Emperor Yu the Great around 2200 BC.

But gifting mandarins isn't just for Chinese royalty. In Canada, they're a Christmas tradition. Japanese immigrants popularized the fruit in the Great White North around the late 1800s. It's a Japanese custom to give mandarins around the New Year as a symbol of good fortune, and that tradition has spread throughout North America. The tangerine orange color, much like the fruit it's named after, has traveled a long journey through history and across continents.

As the fruit became popular, so did its distinctive vibrant color, leading to the coining of the term tangerine orange. Just like the color, the tangerine oil is also distinctive and vibrant, and we know you and your family will love it.
