Today we're excited to talk to Samantha Lewis, a member of the doTERRA Product Marketing team, about the new Endless Summer blend.

doTERRA: Samantha, thank you so much for joining us today.

Samantha Lewis: I'm so happy to be here.

doTERRA: I am happy you're here too, because this is a blend that I've been so excited about. I've had a hard time not talking about it because I think people are going to love it so much. So can you take us a little bit behind the scenes and talk about what the thought was behind creating this Endless Summer blend?

Samantha Lewis: Yes. I'm so glad that you're loving it. It's such an incredible blend. And we really wanted to create a signature summertime scent. And I think you get that right away when you smell it. So as brainstorming, like the first thing that we came up with is let's bottle the feeling of an endless summer and the words Endless Summer just stuck. Now, some of our original copy that I want to share with you, to kind of give you a little sneak peek in the development process that inspired our perfumer as she crafted the aroma of Endless Summer. Let's get into that.

So we wrote out, “Awaken your senses to the allure of balmy days and sultry nights with our Endless Summer essential oil blend. Every note is a journey, from the intoxicating aroma of blooming jasmine to the zesty whisper of citrus groves mingled with the rich, earthy scent of roasted coconut, culminating in the deep embrace of amber and vanilla. This isn't just another fragrance, it's an experience, a time capsule of those magical moments where time seemed to stand still.” And we wrote that as our inspiration. And I think Eva, who is our incredibly talented perfumer, really ran with it and created a summertime bottled.

I mean, that was that was literally the first thing as we're sitting thinking of, of some great blends to come up with this, let's, let's bottle the feeling of Endless Summer.

doTERRA: And I think you definitely have. And even like you said, that copy really helps you imagine what it could be like. And that feeling of just nostalgia and warmth and relaxation, it's incredible.

Samantha Lewis: I'm glad you feel like we captured that.

doTERRA: Now, can you take us into the specific oils inside this blend? Because I think there's something pretty unique, isn't there?

Samantha Lewis: Yes. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to talk through this. So Endless Summer combines aromatic profiles of some really common and unique essential oils, so I'll list through them. But I do want to highlight some of the genius behind our perfumer’s concept of incorporating a classic concept of accords into diffuser blends. So with Endless Summer, Eva DeMarchi, our in-house perfumer, she knew a watermelon aroma was essential to communicate the fresh depth we were looking for in this blend.

But there's no watermelon essential oil, no watermelon aromatic extract. So by combining Jasmine sambach, which is a unique variety of jasmine that has kind of a sweeter depth, plus refreshing green mandarin and grapefruit complemented by tropical coconut extract, Eva created what we're calling a watermelon accord. Now, I know this is a newer term to the traditional aromatherapy world, but it's actually a commonly used concept in perfumery.

Accords are essentially the building blocks of a perfume. They allow perfumers to create a complex and balanced fragrance by combining various aromatic elements. So by combining these natural ingredients, Eva was able to make a watermelon aroma, or what we're calling the watermelon Accord. This would have traditionally been achieved by combining ten, 20, 30 plus synthetic isolates and ingredients, but we've been able to incorporate accord aroma profiles through essential oils and natural extracts.

It's pretty profound and unique in the essential oil and fragrance space, so I just want to applaud Eva on that and thank her for bringing that incredible watermelon aroma that you just don't see in essential oils. So with that all said, there are other complementary ingredients in Endless Summer that truly complete the whole aromatic profile, all balanced out with fractionated coconut oil that just brings it all together. So we'll go through those. You have wild orange, grapefruit, coconut extract, Siam wood, eucalyptus, bergamot, green mandarin, labdanum extract, jasmine extract which I love. Our jasmine sambac. It's so good! Frankincense, palmarosa sandalwood spicatum, osmanthus extract, manuka, litsea and tonka bean extract. So it's a jam packed blend and that really comes together to create a citrus, floral, sweet, aromatic experience. And as I mentioned before, summertime bottled.

doTERRA: Absolutely. And it's so incredible because you would never guess when smelling Endless Summer that there wasn't just an actual piece of watermelon in there that was creating that watermelon scent. It's incredible.

Samantha Lewis: Right? I'm so glad that you get that too. I feel like she was just able to encapsulate it before you even know that. That's part of the inspo, right?

doTERRA: Yes, absolutely. Now, obviously this blend was crafted with summer in mind, with those feelings in mind. So what is it that makes it so perfect for summertime?

Samantha Lewis: So Endless Summer, I think, really just fills the home with callbacks to long, warm days of sunshine, happiness and excitement. These incredible memories. One thing you'll find with the sunshine blend is how it evolves as it's diffused. So after about an hour, you'll see the warmer ingredients bloom, more the richness of the labdanum and the allure of the jasmine sambac. I like to compare it to a true summer day, starting out fresh, bright and happy.

You got those uplifting, sparkly citruses at the beginning, and then it leads into dusk with beautiful sunsets and long summer nights we hope never end with those more rich aromas that I mentioned. Now, although this blend is perfect for summer, its use isn't exclusive to the summertime. We were actually developing this blend during the winter months, and I loved bringing sunshine into the gloomier days of winter that we all experience. And that's the beauty of summertime bottled. We can all use a bit of summertime sunshine sprinkled out all year round, not just, you know, in the middle of summer. So I hope that this is something that people even apply in their own lives. Hoard that little bottle in the summer and diffuse it in the middle of December when we're in a, you know, here in Utah, we get the crazy snowstorms. I loved using it throughout the winter time.

doTERRA: Yes, maybe stock up a little bit.

Samantha Lewis: Yeah, definitely.

doTERRA: Who doesn't want that feeling of summer sunshine in the middle of the most dreary January?

Samantha Lewis: I totally agree. Yeah, it was a lifesaver for me. I'll just, you know, put that out there.

doTERRA: So let's go a little bit further into there. Obviously you said you like to use it during the winter, not just the summer, but what are your favorite times or places to use this blend?

Samantha Lewis: I love the idea of using Endless Summer to ring in summertime. So as the days grow longer and we look to the stress relief promised by the summertime months because that's for me what summertime

So starting April/May, really start to bring in that summertime vibe. I'm also using my Roam diffuser outside to scent some of the more like alfresco dinners we love to host.

As the months get a little warmer as the evenings warm up to and as the scent evolves, so does the time spent as an evening winds down with my family and friends. It's such a fun way to scent your space and just add that little nuance to an experience. I've also been playing around with Endless Summer as a perfume, so I love to combine oils with like a DIY alcohol base in a cute little spray bottle, and then spritz my clothes and hair throughout the day to bring sunshine everywhere.

You do want to be careful about how much ends up directly on your skin because of the citrus oils, though, but this has been such a fun way to bring summertime even throughout my day without a diffuser.

doTERRA: Those are such incredible ideas and I love the personal fragrance. Like you said, be careful with the skin, but for bedding or for, you know, your towels, it would be such an incredible scent.

Samantha Lewis: Oh my gosh, I can see it now. Like even on drapes walking in and out of the like. If you have beautiful door like French doors with drapes on them and you walk in and out and smell this fresh summertime scent, I'm loving it. Stealing that inspo right now. It is now my new room spray. I love it.

doTERRA: So the moral of the story is to use this everywhere, because you will want that summertime sunshine blend everywhere in your home and all year round too.

Samantha Lewis: Yes, absolutely.
