Today, we’re wrapping up our special series, providing you with all of the best highlights from this week’s 2020 PURSUE Connection.
The final day of PURSUE 2020 started off focusing on the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® and how they are continually striving to spread the love of humanity around the world. First, Mark Wolfert, doTERRA founding executive, spoke about why doTERRA has always chosen to put a large emphasis on giving.
Mark Wolfert: From early on in the company’s history, before we were able to provide a living wage, all seven founding executives understood that establishing a pattern of giving was central to doTERRA’s success. That’s ultimately what this is all about—not personal wealth or personal achievement, but changing the world one drop, one person, and one community at a time.
doTERRA: Next, Missy Larsen—vice president of philanthropy and community impact for doTERRA—spoke in detail about projects the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation has been able to accomplish over the last 10 years. She emphasized that through Wellness Advocates teaming up with the Healing Hands Foundation, real change has been able to occur around the world.
Missy Larsen: It is going to take the combined efforts of all of us to bring about real and sustainable change. You are the future of the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation. Our goal is to empower you to become advocates of change. Together, we can continue to change the world.
doTERRA: Missy went on to highlight one such project: the Emotional Superpowers program.
Missy: Emotional Superpowers shows children how to recognize, respect, and respond to the powers of emotions. This simple program gives caregivers and children the tools to discover their true selves and combat emotional burdens.
doTERRA: Missy gave many more examples of successes through the match program, such as tornado relief in Kansas and Girls on Fire—a program that trains, supports, and uplifts disadvantaged and abused girls in Kenya.

The afternoon session on the final day of PURSUE 2020 focused all on the Mood and Mind. And started with a message from founding executive Corey Lindley. He spoke about the amazing year the doTERRA has had, in the United States and around the world. He acknowledged that with this growth and success comes a growing demand for pure essential oils and promised again that doTERRA is committed to always having enough pure essential oils to meet demand around the world.
Corey Lindley: The efforts and lengths that our team go to every day to pursue what’s pure, deliver the best essential oils, and support you, our Wellness Advocates and customers, is unprecedented. It is with humility, yet profound gratitude, that we confidently say we have the best, most dedicated employee force in the world!
doTERRA: Then we were able to hear from Jessica Travis, a nurse practitioner in the fields of pain medicine and neurology who has focused her career in holistic education, about the importance of mental and emotional health. She introduced something that she likes to refer to as the Emotional Feedback Loop, which illustrates how your body reacts emotionally to sensory input.
Jessica Travis: Understanding the feedback loop we just discussed and having a grasp on what’s really happening in your mind and body enables you to see that there are, in fact, points along the loop where intervention is possible.
doTERRA: Jessica also gave her advice on the best products to use to support you as you strive to interrupt the feedback loop in your life.
After Jessica, we were lucky to be able to hear again from Dr. Nicole Stevens, doTERRA’s director of clinical research, as she talked about the Adaptiv line and mental health. She began by talking about nature versus nurture, applying it to DNA versus epigenetics. She explained that DNA is the nature we’re given, and epigenetics is the nurture we’re exposed to. One incredibly fascinating fact that she shared was that research has shown that epigenetics can be affected by smell. She went on explain that using the Adaptiv System, we are combining internal, topical, and aromatic use for the greatest effect.
Dr. Nicole Stevens: So, what does this all come down to? Well, even though our bodies all come with a certain set of genetic instructions, we can change and often optimize the expression of those instructions through our lifestyle. We can do this through having a healthy diet, getting the right amount of sleep, staying active, and managing our stress. Additionally, we can use powerful natural products, such as the Adaptiv System, to support our mental health through aromatic pathways, to impact our physical wellbeing, and to provide a systemic benefits to our bodies. Making these simple changes and implementing natural solutions can truly empower us to take control of our health and wellness. We have the ability to use both nature and nurture to help us live a life that is exactly what we want.
doTERRA: After Dr. Stevens, Danielle Daniel shared some of what she has learned through her research studying clinical psychology. Specifically, she spoke about trauma and how trauma continues to affect our lives as well as how essential oils can help us to move forward. She has worked with those affected by trauma in their lives and has been able to see incredible results as they incorporate essential oils into their routine.
Danielle Daniel: What I have found is that aromatherapy can help trauma survivors while they are facing difficult triggers in their environment. There are three reasons why essential oils can be so useful in these situations. They are easy to use; they work quickly; and they are incredibly accessible.
We all have varying experiences with trauma, and emotional aromatherapy truly is one of the best tools you can add in your personal journey to emotional wellbeing.
doTERRA: Following Danielle, we were able to hear again from the doTERRA director of nutraceutical development and innovation, Alex DaBell, as he spoke about the Adaptiv Capsules. He showed a deeper look at the individual ingredients inside, why they’re crucial, and how they work seamlessly together.
Alex DaBell: The Adaptiv Capsules are truly an amazing product. An incredible amount of time, thought, and research has gone into making these an effective and natural solution to help you maintain homeostasis.
doTERRA: After Alex, Dr. Heather Pickett spoke about how your sleep can affect each aspect of your life. She detailed the sleep cycle—how it works and the purpose of each stage. Then she described what happens to your body when you fail to get the quality and amount of sleep you need.
Dr. Heather Pickett: One of the major effects of a lack of quality sleep is weight gain. Another possible effect can be on your mood. When sleep deprived, parts of your brain can be functionally “asleep” as you go throughout your day. Additionally, recent data suggests that a lack of sleep in teenagers affects their brain development.
doTERRA: Now, all of that sounds pretty serious. But getting better sleep isn’t out of your control. Dr. Pickett also showed that there are simple lifestyle changes you can make to help you get a better night of sleep. And you also have access to incredible doTERRA products that can help you get your best rest.
Dr. Pickett: It can be tempting at times to turn to synthetic options when looking for a quick way to support your sleep. But we’re so lucky to have these precious, natural gifts of the earth at our fingertips. We don’t have to turn to synthetic ingredients to support our sleep.
doTERRA: Following Dr. Pickett, Rebeckah Hintze, a mental health specialist and bestselling author, joined Dr. Brannick Riggs to answer some common questions about using doTERRA products to support your mind and mood. They covered things such as how to incorporate Adaptiv Capsules into your life, how the different applications of essential oils affect the body differently, and why each person’s experience with essential oils is unique.
Finally, Dr. David Hill, doTERRA founding executive, wrapped up PURSUE 2020 with a powerful call to action.
Dr. David Hill: We also live in a time where there are many people who may feel differently. Maybe their experiences are different than our own. It's okay. We have a great opportunity yet to change the world, to make a difference in people's lives.
Pursue is not a passive word. It's a word of action. Pursue more education, pursue more opportunities to share with others, pursue the opportunity to make a difference in your communities, your neighborhoods, and even in your own family.
doTERRA: Thank you so much for joining us today for this final special PURSUE 2020 episode. It has been an amazing week as we have learned from doctors, scientists, and experts in the field. Make sure to mark your calendar for October 1 so you don’t miss any of the new product releases. And we can’t wait until we get a chance to meet together again next year. Until then, we will continue to always pursue what’s pure.
