Pasitos de Luz

We’re thrilled to partner with Pasitos de Luz again for our service project this year!

Founded in 1999, Pasitos de Luz is a nonprofit clinic in Puerto Vallarta for children who have physical and intellectual disabilities. Many families can’t afford therapy for their kids, and the Mexican government only offers about two hours of therapy a month, which isn’t enough to make a difference in a child’s life.

That’s where Pasitos steps in. Pasitos has a bus that picks up about 50 kids in the Puerto Vallarta area in the morning, feeds them breakfast and lunch, and gives them therapy throughout the day, based on their needs. This service gives the parents an opportunity to go to work without worrying about the well-being of their child.

The different types of therapy include:

  • Physical
  • Occupational
  • Music, dance, and art
  • Pediatric aquatic

At Pasitos, impaired children learn how to comb their hair and brush their teeth, they play in the yard interacting with animals and plants, and more! And it’s all free for their families.

During the 2019 Incentive Trip, 400 doTERRA Wellness Advocates went to Pasitos de Luz. At that time, Pasitos was looking for a partner to help improve the conditions of their grounds. There were issues with kids wandering off of the property and unwelcome visitors entering it. Plus, the outdoor space was generally underutilized.

The solution was to build a wall around the property, sealing it with plaster for longevity, and build other structures to inspire the kids in an outdoor environment. What we did in 2019 put Pasitos on a fast track to achieve some of their goals, shaving off years that it would’ve taken them to raise funds for materials and labor.

But the work isn’t done, so we’re going back! This year, we’ll finish what we started in 2019 and launch Pasitos even further ahead with new projects. We’ll be tackling a long list of indoor and outdoor projects, including:

  • Mixing cement for a fishpond and sidewalk
  • Mixing stucco and applying it to the concrete fence
  • Installing metal fences for animals
  • Sanding and painting rusty posts throughout the property
  • Painting curbs, walkways, and walls so they’re bright, fun and protected from the strong sun
  • Cleaning solar panels
  • Installing a roof for an outdoor compost station
  • Giving massages to the hardworking staff
  • Planting flowers and food crops
  • Building an outdoor multisensory garden designed for neurodivergent and blind kids

We’ll have projects for Wellness Advocates of all skill levels and interests. And if you just want to tour the facility and play with the kids, you’re welcome to join! Signups for the specific projects will be available at Registration on Monday, February 3.

Donations

If you’d like to bring donations for the Pasitos de Luz staff and children, we’ve made a list of recommended items. Please bring them with you to Registration on Monday, February 3.

Come meet a long-term doTERRA partner while building memories with your friends and colleagues. We’ll see you there.
